new do and the case of the missing dinner

So...I got my hair did...

Melba at the salon put it in a ponytail and cut straight across...

3 1/2 inches...poof!...gone!
then she just kept on cutting and cutting
and trimming and trimming..
shorter and shorter and shorter

And I LOVE it!

She kept asking me...its not too short is it?

I was a little sad when I was scrolling through ideas for hair and makeup on yahoo this morning and I realized  "oh yeah I can't do cute braids or romantic curls"

but then I realized that the last time I braided my hair (other than to sleep in) was when I was in oh we'll say about 8th grade...
...and that I only curled my hair say every...2-3 months...

then I remembered how it took me only  FIVE MINUTES to dry my hair this morning!!!

YAY!!!

Here is me after sleeping in an hour too late the following day...

Hey...its way better than a gross pony tail...every single day!

Before:

After:

What do you think?

as a side note:

while preparing dinner tonight we played a little game of where did the duck breast run off to?

So, I am sure most of you don't eat much duck,
but I'm from the Delta
and my daddy is a duck hunter
so YES!  I eat duck.
It's delish and I'm not afraid to say it!

Tonight it was sauteed duck breast with sweet peas and rice.
While I was waiting to begin, I was preoccupied with something in the guest quarters...ok the guest room...
anyway when I returned to the kitchen,
something was missing:

It was that darn cat.
He is the devil.

So I searched high and low for Toonces and the missing meat...
I even looked under the bed.
Finally I found him under the kitchen table
<I know...surprise right?>
But there was no duck to be found...
until...
I saw this little lady trying frantically to scarf it down.

I snatched it up and commenced to clean the floors with all my might!
Raw meat = GROSS!

new favorites and old friends

This was an exciting and beautiful weekend for our clan...

lookin' out my back door

We don't have pictures to prove it, but we had more family in town!
The hubby's sister, brother-in-law and niece all came to visit.
We had a nice dinner at our place Saturday night which was when we discovered a new favorite...

let me explain...

After telling tale after tale of baby Caleb's adventures with "solid" foods
<although they are all actually quite mushy, runny and messy>
we wanted to show off our little non-eater.

After rice cereal...

pears...

sweet peas...

and carrots...

we tried sweet potatoes to show everybody our silly faces.

We were hesitant, but we gave it a shot...

and we thought about it...

tried it again...

and really took the time to fully savor the texture, temperature and all the flavors of this new concoction, and...

SUCCESS!

Once again the kid made us fibbers.

Oh well, we still celebrated!

Sunday, after church and before the hubby went bowling,
Mommy got reacquainted with a dear old friend.

He too, was hesitant...

but in the end all was well!

He was a perfect little gentleman!

Well maybe just a little rusty...after all it has been about 14 months since he was really required to do anything except eat and poop....

Caleb and the Hubbs came to watch the show
<hence, the pictures>

All in all it was a beautiful weekend with beautiful weather and lots of fun!

plus, Moby has new neighbors!

hay is for horses

My husband is glad we have only one horse...why?
Moby

The little things like...
stacking hay...this time only 20 bales...
it is hard work...but its fun...
it makes me miss the days of putting up 100-200 bales for the winter...
picking fresh bales up in the field, desperately trying to keep up with the truck and trailer, hurling bales to whoever is stacking on the moving mountain of hay in the middle of 90 degree weather.
I don't know why I miss days like this but I do!
7 months pregnant and Moby kisses!

Although I don't want to do it today.
Not today...or tormorrow even.
Caleb seemed to enjoy it!

Maybe we'll make a country boy out of him yet!
10 days old and Mommy's saddle

Then again, maybe not...
You see I've become one of those moms.
I was determined not to...
so I bought him little big boy pants that were complete miniature replicas of big man pants.
and I bought him little flannel shirts in manly colors.
I bought him boots...John Deere boots...

and I said NO pastel on my little miniature man.
but then it happened...
he was born a baby...my baby
Caleb Robert Fisher- Day One

and its all going by so quickly!
He is almost four months old.
Which means...
he is almost nearly on his way to being a practically grown-up man!

I can't take it.

This is going to be difficult for me.

Very difficult.

So I've decided to take advantage of the only means I have to keep him my little, bitty, sweet baby boy...
...his wardrobe.
He will still wear the miniature man clothes...but...
ready for church

I've mixed in some pastel...and puppies...and little white rounded collars.
That was him yesterday going to church!
He is so cute in his little smocked outfit!
I've got to get more of these...
more little, sweet, pastel baby clothes.

I've got to do this while I still can.

My little baby boy is already becoming a little man...

A little man who frowned this morning when I kissed him
and laughed when he pooted
and is determined not to go to bed on time.
He is developing a mind of his own.

...and I don't think he'll be wearing little blue gingham outfits with smocked puppies when he's fifteen and has all of his teeth.

Oh my...!
